You’re reading it right, Steve Jobs didn’t know how to code!

You’ve read the Steve Jobs biography, watched the Jobs movie, purchased an iPhone, an iPod and an iPad and you now imagine you know all about one of the greatest contributors to modern-day technology, right? Here’s something that’ll have you drop that apple you’ve been chomping on in shock. While strolling around web-pages this afternoon, we came across this shocking fact shared by Steve Wozniak aka “The Woz” aka the co-founder of Apple. Steve Jobs didn’t know how to code!

According to Wozniak’s post on woz.org, “Steve didn’t ever code. He wasn’t an engineer and he didn’t do any original design, but he was technical enough to alter and change and add to other designs.” The Apple 1 and the Apple 2 were coded by Wozniak with help from Allen Baum who contributed to the Apple 2. The BASIC code was handwritten, as Wozniak couldn’t afford an assembler at that time. This pretty much puts to rest the rumors of Steve creating the iPhone in his garage to rest, not that we really dug that anyway.
