Unichal Dixau – The future of dictionaries?

by Dhiram Shah

Korea based Unichal has unveiled the Dixau a new concept of dictionary at the World IT Show 2008. The Dixau looks somewhat like a nightlamp but in place of a light it has a camera with proprietary character recognition technology. The unit is connected to a computer and shows up all the words on a monitor with authentic native-speaker voice and when the user clicks on a word it retrieves the meaning from the Internet. The company claims Dixau can support upto 17 dictionaries when connected to the Internet. The company would be selling it for 99,000 KRW ($ 95).
