The LaCie FastKey is a super-fast, super-secure little thumb drive that doesn’t come cheap

LaCie has just announced what’s being called the smallest SSD USB 3.0 drive ever called the LaCie FastKey. This baby is designed to deliver speeds of up to 260MB/s and can transfer 1000 mp3 or five DIVX files in less than 60 seconds. That’s about 10 times faster than USB 2.0, but FastKey’s performance can actually go beyond that. Smaller files can be written up to 100 times faster than your average USB 2.0 hard drive thanks to the combination of SSD, USB 3.0 and DRAM cache technology. The drive itself is encased inside a sturdy aluminum shell and measures just 26cms. It even has a strap included you can simply hook it onto a keychain or bag to carry around with you.

The LaCie FastKey also comes with the AES 256-bit encryption software to keep your data secure and allows you to select any specific amount of data to encrypt if not all. Wuala provides FastKey users with additional sharing and storage options online of up to 4GB. The FastKey is available in 30GB, 60GB and 120GB capacities through the LaCie Online Store, LaCie Corner, and LaCie Reseller+ starting at $149.99. That’s a bit pricey but it does come some pretty nifty features nevertheless.
