The end of the Zune, now official

by Gareth Mankoo

If there was a device that stood some potential of making it to the heights of PMP delight, after the iPod, then it would be the Microsoft Zune. Alas, the device came along at a very wrong time. It was meant to be an iPod killer some would say, but some would agree that had it rolled in before the iPod it would surely be killing it in the PMP domain. Whatever be the case, the Microsoft Zune has officially been put to sleep. The company has decided to not produce stand alone players, according to one report.

What do we see from this? The unlikely prospect of the Sony Walkman taking over the iPod’s domain? I reckon not.
