by ruchi

Sony is definitely living up to its reputation of creating beautiful as well as brilliant gadgets and has achieved yet another milestone with the Organic TFT-Driven Flexible E-paper. Unveiled at the 49th SID 2011 event in Los Angeles, this E-paper measures 13.3 inch and is 150 microns thick. It is only a prototype as of now that uses E Ink Corp’s electrophoretic front plane laminate. The semi-conductor layer here is made up of Peri-Xanthenoxanthene (PXX) and is manufactured with a spin coating method using solution. This ultra thin, robust display weighs less than 20 grams and it can be made compact to settle in the available space without any compromise on its functionality. It owes its feather weight and sleekness to the use of plastic substrate. Other specs include 13-percent color gamut, 10:1 contrast ratio, and 150dpi resolution. Unfortunately, a confirmed word on pricing and worldwide availability is yet to come out.
