Sony announces 3D Blu-ray players

by Gareth Mankoo

Sony have brought out their 3D Blu-ray players into the open at last! The BDP-S470 will be able to play Blu-ray movies and other firmware from other devices. All movies that will pass the Blu-ray 3D specification can be shown on these players. The BDP-S470 will provide support for PlayStation 3, HDTVs (including LCDs and plasma) and streaming videos from YouTube, Amazon Video On Demand and Netflix. It will also allow you to use your iPhone and your iPhone Touch as a remote with the help of the BD remote application at Apple’s App Store. Along with all this comes the ever-needed Wi-fi support and USB playback. Surely this one’s not the first one. We’ve seen the Panasonic beat them to that title.

The BDP-S470 player will be available in February for $200. 3D capability will also be added to two existing Blu-ray models, namely BDP-S370 ($180) and BDP-570 ($250).
