Smart Slippers to Help Keep You on Your Toes

by Shayne Rana

Recently at AT&Ts Technology Showcase in San Francisco California where the company showed off some future technology, one rather innovative concept was also displayed which was called ‘Smart Slippers’. It sounds interestingly like a Japanese concept USB attached device but the technology, once explained could prove be quite handy for the elderly living alone or those having difficulty walking. In theory the system is remarkably simple. A set of what could be normal slippers are equipped with sensors that relay information to the user’s home network. These sensors are designed to pick up information about the wearers walking habits for one thing and issue appropriate warnings and alerts if the user sustains a fall. It’s possible that the information could also be passed on to authorities and the 911 help line if necessary.
