Onkyo VR-1000J converts video for your PSP and cell phone

Onkyo Japan has announced the strangely shaped VR-1000J media recorder. The pyramid shaped unit has a Memory Stick and SD card slot allowing it to record video directly from your TV or any other source. The videos are encoded in MPEG-4 format and audio in AAC/G.726/AMR for playback on the PSP and cell phones. It also supports video encoding in 3GPP format for playback on dated cell phones. Unfortunately it does not have a built in TV tuner so it needs to be connected to a video source. Three modes are available for recording Super fine (30fps at 320×240), Fine (15fps at 320×240) and Normal (15fps at 176×144).

The Onkyo VR-1000J measures 151×156×59mm and will be available in Japan from Christmas for 20,000 Yen ($ 170).
