New buoys help submarines communicate better
by Gareth Mankoo
In the days gone by there used to be quite a few problems, getting messages from and to submarines that were at sea. They often needed to come dangerously close to the surface, so as to come within a communication range. However, all of that seems to have changed by a good measure, especially with the development of the cool new communication buoys from Lockheed Martin. These 40-inch buoys function by ejecting out of the garbage disposal chutes while maintaining connection with the submarine via cables that are really long.
There’s a further development that will help the submarines communicate with buoys dropped from planes with the help of specialized acoustic messaging systems. This is a great move that can help submarines be part of the amazing military network.
