Mobile phone jammers installed at Japanese ATMs to protect the elderly
The elderly in Japan are the victims of a new kind of fraudsters, these con artists would call in their victims and instruct them to withdraw cash from the nearest ATM and settle some disputed amount of their close relatives or such. To avoid such activities mobile phone signal jammers have been installed at four unmanned locations in the Tokyo area so far. The devices are installed on the ceiling, emitting cellular signal interference waves. The 1-2 meter sphere being emitted by the jammer should not affect people standing at a safe distance behind the customer at the ATM. The bank will slowly phase in these mobile phone signal jammers at all of their ATM locations.
