Microvision miniature Laser projector

by Dhiram Shah

Portable pocket projectors were the craze at CES this year and now the attention is shifting to micro Laser projectors. At Japan’s Ceatec exhibition Microvision demonstrated the SHOWWX micro projector which uses a Laser as an illuminant. The projector uses the company’s PicoP image processing engine, it supports a resolution of 848 x 480 pixels, brightness of 10 lumina, image aspect ratio of 16:9 and a contrast ratio of 5000:1. The biggest advantage with Laser projectors is that they do not require a lens and thus no focussing, project on any surface from any distance and the image will be clear. In fact it can project clearly even on curved surfaces (image after the jump). The unit charges via USB and a full charge is good for 2 hours of projection. Microvision will start shipping the SHOWWX in a couple of weeks in the range of $400 – 500.
