Lost your passport? Don’t worry, a selfie is good enough for getting around EU
There are people who are self-obsessed and then there are people who are selfie obsessed. If you are from the latter category, then there’s some good news for you. You can use your selfie for your passport, finally it has a purpose! If you are living in Europe, and by any chance forget or lose your passport, the authorities will make a new one instantly. Using the government approved photo app, you will have to take a selfie, but no duck faces or pouts please, just a little grin should be enough. Considering you posed with grace, once you get the card, it will be valid for 5 years. The card owner can travel in 28 European countries as well as Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein. They will be available in Ireland from mid-July for €35. Initially, people of Ireland who are above 18 years of age and already have a passport will be able to avail this facility; very soon the facility should be available in the rest of the Europe.
This is the first time selfie are being used for official purpose. If the card scheme is successful, then selfies could be used for other official documents too.
