Japan’s Core Robot prototype is like a weightlifter without arms
Here’s a work-bot if I ever saw one and the Japanese are the guys who have brought it to us. Well the prototype at least. The robot is called ‘Core’. It lacks a certain… personality as it has no head. Before you get any creepy thoughts, do remember it’s a robot, it doesn’t really need one. This one is designed to help hoist heavy loads and up to 220 pounds. It does ‘squats’ at the knees but stands at 6 feet, 2 inches tall when standing up straight. It comes complete with 12 actuators and shock absorbers but it moves awfully slow. You might do better with a manually or remote control driven fork lift. Nevertheless it’s another ‘step’ forward for robot-kind and the team at Chiba’s Future Robotics Technology Center should be proud of the accomplishment.
