Iris inspection robot gives a glimpse of future battle tanks

Chiba Institute of Techonology Japan has announced “Iris” which is an upgrade to the Hibiscus robot. With four powerful crawlers the Iris comes with a 360 degree rotating camera and a bright LED light for inspecting those shady areas. This any terrain bot can easily cross obstacles over 15 cms tall and can move through places which are hardly accessible. Images and video are transmitted in real time by Iris for taking on the spot decisions. The unit measures 270×400×250mm and will go into service by 2008.
