HP Slate PC to cost $549?

by Gareth Mankoo

There are details that come in every now and then, tempting us to believe their claim. This one though seems to be totally surprising and uncalled for. It comes at a time when everyone’s busy chasing images, pricing and reviews of the iPad. The dark horse of the tablet PC world, the HP Slate comes in with information about the possible pricing and the versions of the PC that will be available. The table will feature Windows 7, have a cool 8.9 inch screen with support for capacitive multi-touch, a 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z530, 3 mp camera, 32 GB flash storage and 1 GB RAM (non-upgradeable). Other features will include HDMI out, SDHC card slot, SIM slot for 3G and a USB port.

It will come in two versions. The $549 one will come with a base Wi-fi configuration, 32 GB flash and 1 GB RAM. While a $599 version will come with 64 GB storage.
