Garmin’s Oregon 550 and Oregon 550t navigators for serious travelers
by Gareth Mankoo
Garmin has come out with two new fantastic navigators, namely Oregon 550 and Oregon 550t. Both devices have a 3.2 megapixel camera (hopefully with geo-tagging of images) and 850MB of internal memory. In addition to this it also supports USB connectivity and has a 3-axis compass. To make it tough and durable, Garmin has forfeited both devices with waterproof chassis. Other goodies such as a couple of rechargeable batteries, sunlight-readable display screen (3 inches), real-time guidance, etc are bound to make you fall in love with these.
The most significant difference between both devices is that the Oregon 550 ($500) comes with the basemap of the world while the Oregon 550t ($600) comes with preloaded topography of the US.
