Finally, a hoverboard that may not explode

by Gareth Mankoo

The brainchild of a startup called Kiwano, the KO-X claims to be the first ever connected scooter. It is powered by electronics from Samsung and up plays the aspect of being the safest hoverboard out there. It is also referred to as a self-balancing scooter by some. The former claim is important because we are familiar with stories of hoverboards that have gone rogue or simply caught fire, causing loss of money spent on them and injury. By connected, the KO-X claims that it can pair up with an accompanying app and track the riders’ total distance covered and battery life. Beginner, normal and advanced modes enable riders to configure the speed of the boards. The scooters also have a speaker incorporated in them so that you can keep yourself entertained via Bluetooth as you hover around town. The body of the scooter is made from airplane-grade aluminum with plastic components. Weighing 14.5 kilograms, a single charge can take a passenger to a distance of 15 km at a maximum speed of 25 kmph. The two independent gyroscopes help keep the rider stable.

The KO-X sells for $399 while being crowdfunded. The price may go up to $799 once it is complete.
