Art created from common salt, Bashir Sultani cooks up saline drawings

by Gavril Mankoo

We’ve seen salt being added to food, making it more palatable. We’ve also seen salt being rubbed on wounds, making life a misery. Now, we stumbled across salt being used to create art! Bashir Sultani prefers his art with a pinch of salt, and uses the same to create some pretty astounding artifacts! Using common table salt, Sultani’s creations include Master Chief, Spongebob, an iPhone, Darth Vader, Optimus Prime, Nyan Cat, Homer, Harry Potter, The Joker, Einstein, Marcus Fenix (Gears of War), Ezio Auditore da Firenze (Assassin’s Creed), Angry Birds and Pikachu. And the truly heart-wrenching moment of it all, if not the extra dosage of salt, is Sultani messing up his art forms in the videos once finished. After all, these are perishable artifacts, and Sultani prefers ending their lives with the very hands that created them, instead of having someone lick Spongebob off the table.
