Android Gingerbread emulator ain’t all that grand, let’s hope the reality will be

Welcome to the next update in Google ever lovin’ Android OS – version 2.3 aka Gingerbread. The SDK is out and has the promise of brining many goodies to the Android table. But with regards to the emulator designed for the developers it seems the guys at Engadget weren’t too happy with the performance. For one thing it seems too basic. The UI was hardly an upgrade compared to Froyo and the emulators turned out to be too slow. Google’s Gmail application didn’t make it to the emulator at all. They’ve also listed quite a few other quirks so the bottom line is, although the Nexus S handset is still out of reach the emulator for Gingerbread proved to be just so-so. Check out their slightly more detailed take here.
