Commemorative pure gold coin released by Perth Mint for 50th anniversary of Doctor Who

Doctor Who has been thrilling sci-fi audiences for decades and has just been commemorated in a rather ‘bright’ fashion Down Under. The TARDIS (Time and Relative Dimensions in Space), a little Police box from the 1960’s not very unlike Superman’s iconic ‘telephone booth’ has been imprinted, as a tribute to the famous time travelling doctor, on 250 limited edition gold coins. This is the 50th anniversary of the famous sci-fi adventure drama show and to show their love for the good old doc, the Perth Mint has given him a solid gold tribute.

Each of the commemorative coins come in their own little wooden case complete with inlay to showcase the certificate of authenticity. This is a sort of follow up tribute to the Silver coin that was released a little earlier this year. The price of each coin is $2995, then again that’s also because of the fact that it’s made from one ounce of 99.99 per cent pure gold. Each coin is also imprinted with the inscription: Doctor Who 50th Anniversary 1963 – 2013.
