Zeebo - A new gaming console for under $200
A new company called Zeebo joining hands with Qualcomm, has designed a game console for emerging markets. Featuring 3G wireless game delivery, the Zeebo will launch in Brazil next month, where it will ship. The device is billed as a "fourth video game console" that will target middle-class buyers in emerging markets. The Zeebo system will come pre-loaded with four games, with the ability to download a fifth title for free. The Zeebo uses no discs or other fixed media. Instead, the console employs a Qualcomm chipset that allows users to connect over a wireless network to purchase and download games. The games are stored in flash memory with a capacity to hold about 50 games on the machine at a time.
At $200, the Zeebo console will be inexpensive. All of the components are derived from cellphone chipsets, which contribute to the Zeebo's low cost, and low power consumption -- two important facets to consider when marketing a device to emerging nations.
