Xperia X1 the iPhone better watch out

sony.xperia.x1.lg.jpg The Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 features the 'Panels' interface, which essentially means the phone can run nine different desktops at once. Yes, you saw it first here then you also know of all the fine features it boasts. Let us hope that it doesn’t have security issues like the recent iPhone security goof up. Now in order for the phone to compete with the iPhone the final version of the Xperia X1 will have 340MB RAM. It's been boosted since the early demo models to counter the lag that hobbles other smartphones like the HTC Touch Diamond. Nevertheless, the phone suffers from a lengthy wait when the 'panels' skin starts up. The Xperia X1's 'panels' menu system, which allows up to nine applications (e.g. e-mail, video) to be open simultaneously, is 100% proprietary and won't, as has been rumored to be licensed to other smartphones. The X1's keyboard and metal chassis feels much more high end than the Touch Pro. The iPhone may have the multitouch but the Sony Xperia X1 has its very own Panel that the company is hoping will give the iPhone 3G a run for its money.

The phone will be available in a choice of two finishes – solid black and steel silver. Steel silver is the best. No word yet on the pricing, but the launch date has been confirmed as September 30.
