artificial_heart_1.jpg In this plastic world it was only a matter of time before someone would invent the artificial heart. Although it won't be able to mend your emotional damage, the medical ones will be take care of. French scientists have invented a working prototype of a fully artificial heart. Apparently its working has been based on bleeding edge technology found in satellites and aircraft. Capable of beating almost like the natural one, it operates using similar feedback as well. The faux heart uses electric sensors to monitor and control heart rate and blood flow. Developed by Carmat along with funds put in by the European space and defense group EADS, the artificial heart was unveiled in Paris.

This new heart is made mainly from a combination of polymer and pig tissue, a similar design to modern heart valves, implanted in many people. It has been successfully tested on large mammals, and is awaiting permission to begin clinical human trials. It's a different issue that the $192,140 price tag will give you another heart attack.
