World's first cloned dog Lancey meets his family
The world's first commercially cloned dog has been introduced. Lancey, a Labrador was delivered to its owners and Florida residents Edgar and Nina Otto. The Ottos had lost their pet Sir Lancelot to cancer in January last year and had stored his DNA. They were one of five selected to clone their family pet when BioArts International held an auction in July. The company then sent the samples o f Sir Lancelot to Sooam Research Foundation in South Korea where Lancey was born on November 18, 2008.
This is wonderful news to the field of science especially after Dolly, the sheep. However, like many criticisms this one has also met a few. For instance, there have been some reports saying that the doctor who had dealt with this experiment in South Korea had lost his research professorship at the Seoul National University in 2004 because he fraudulently claimed that he could clone human embryos and stem cells. The couple, who also has 10 cats, 6 sheep and 4 parrots and who are 79 and 69 in age, paid $155,000 for Lancey. If you have the money, you can have the farm. Or create one. Hence proved.
