Worlds first AA battery-powered plane flies in Japan

The bright minds at the Tokyo Institute of Technology have developed the world's first manned plane powered by AA batteries. The glider like plane has a wingspan of 102 feet with a single seat gondola and is powered by 160 AA "Oxyride" batteries developed by Matushita Electric and is said to be 1.5 times powerful than a regular alkaline battery. The plane gracefully soared to a height of 5.2 meters and stayed in the air for 59 seconds while covering a distance of 391 meters (421 yards). The plane weighs around 53 kg (117 pounds) and the pilot Tomohiro Kamiya weighed the same.
