Wii's success is AMD's too

wii_closeup.jpg Chipmaker AMD has shipped 50 million units of the Nintendo Wii’s custom ATI-developed graphics chip, codenamed as “Hollywood”. AMD has stated that the GPU is the most successful AMD game console chip to date in terms of unit sales. AMD-owned ATI is also responsible for the Xbox 360’s GPU and was behind the “Flipper” GPU for the GameCube. That is really good news especially at these times of recession and financial crunch where the only thing we hear is about downsizing, reduced sales and full closure of companies.
