Virtual reality gaming gets ‘real’, good bye keyboard, good bye mouse
Aside form the many movies that showcase virtual reality gaming, in reality itself that technology seems to be extremely close. In fact, a new system that was developed and tested by Jefry Tedjokusumo, Steven ZhiYing Zhou, and Stefan Winkler of the National University of Singapore, is design to totally immerse the player into the game and not just with the help of some VR glove and visor but to be part of the game play in more literal sense. The was set up to play an FPS game called Death Match, where the players need to be in an large (rectangular) enough room with no obstacles (obviously) and will be adorned with head-mounted displays and a ‘Wand’ (????) that can be used to depict a weapon of some kind in the game. The room is set with sensors to track the player’s movements via their gear and also enable the users to pick up items like ammo etc. The system will allow users to interact with in real time by ducking, dodging and jumping. Is this awesome or is it awesome?! Time to say a fond farewell to your keyboard and mouse.
