Unblocked iPhone in French Supermarkets - Orange squashed

LecLerc a major French supermarket chain is now selling unlocked iPhones, free from any operator lockin. The phones are bought from the US and unlocked using software cracks readily available on the Internet. The store manager says selling the unlocked iPhone is perfectly legal and the device will be sold with warranty and a notice in French which says not to update the firmware from iTunes as it may disable the camera. The store is selling the $400 device at a whopping 999 Euros ($ 1420).

This will be a serious blow to Orange the official carrier for iPhone in France who will be launching the phone in November 29 at 300 Euros.

That is just embarrasing. Look at the way it's advertised! To note this is a Franchise story of a big supermarket chain. Jo Blogs would proabbly buy it too not understanding a thing.

Not really. Don't think it'll be any problem to Orange. Here in India we get the Unlocked iPhone for just 25k INR ~ 550 US$ ! 999 Euros is too damn costly !!!
