Toshiba working on creating the first OLED wallpaper
Toshiba has been working on what science fiction writers call video wallpaper - a thin covering for large walls that could be used for illumination and color scheme(at a minimum) and full-wall, full-motion video at the far end of the scale. What this technology allows you to do is paper your wall in a very thin OLED screen. Companies in the last few years have managed to create ultra thin screens that are capable of being rolled up and it is this technology that might be used to power the paper. For regular TV use, OLED screens are just fine, but when you have a wall 26 ft long, 9 ft tall to cover that’s where the problem seems to come in to play. By using nanotechnology they hope to achieve the same power usage as a regular TV and still have the same brightness making the e-wallpaper functional.
Toshiba are still several years away from making this an available product to buy.
