The first time I saw a 3D movie a few years back I was bowled over at the feeling of being immersed, so what if it was partially. There is no denying the fact that 3D will make audiences move out of their home theaters and go to the real theaters, for that mind-blowing movie or just a new extra sensory experience. It’s no wonder that studios are now trying to cash in on the classics like Titanic, Terminator and Star Wars to make audiences relive that new movie feel. Currently CGI-animated family titles top the list, as an average $8 million or so in remastering costs can be halved thanks to inherent technical advantages in the format. Disney is all geared up to re-release Toy Story and Toy Story 2 in the cinemas in 3D before Christmas this year. It sure brings a smile on my face to take the kids out to watch a 3D movie playing my favorite oldie.
