The world's first positive energy building planned for Abu Dhabi
Here’s something you have never heard off or seen before - an eco-friendly building that generates more power than it consumes. Sounds unreal? But this is exactly what The Masdar Headquarters outside Abu Dhabi is all about thus creating history. Designed by Adrian Smith and Gordon Gill, the $300 million, 1.4 million square foot structure will see its solar roof being built first to power the rest of the construction – another first! Offering the lowest energy consumption per square meter for its class, the headquarters will feature integrated wind turbines and outdoor air quality monitors. Consuming 70 percent less water than its counterparts, the building’s sustainability helped it beat 159 others in the international design competition. Like a match made in heaven, the Masdar Headquarters will serve as a counter piece for the green and car free $22 billion Norman Foster designed Masdar City.
Along with the Masdar Headquarters, the building will accommodate private residences and early bird businesses. With construction distributed over seven phases, the entire structure is due to be completed by 2016.
