The ThermaHelm helmet acts like an ice pack

ThermaHelm_helmate.jpg Though the effects of these can be seen only in the distant future, the ThermaHelm helmet still stands as a life saver for many. With a couple of lightweight chemical packs built into the helmets lining, the helmet uses one of the packs (that has water) and the other one (with nitrate) to create a mix. The sudden reaction causes a cooling reaction that can last up to 45 minutes. This helps improve the chances of the rider’s survival after a crash since it stabilizes the temperature of the brain. It may seem to be a twisted kind of science but it works alright.

The ThermaHelm already seems to be attracting takers, or so says the inventor Jullian Preston-Powers. In fact, it is expected to retail in July this year with GPS, a video camera and Bluetooth. This version will sell for £499 (~$811).
