Way back in 2004, a "Device for the Quick and Easy Use of a Small Size Cellular Telephone," was patented.

Apparently the phone was to be kept up your sleeve (where a magician hides the coin), with " a little extendible sliding tray flipping it out into your hand." Eccentric, truly eccentric!
