The Maantis light gets it’s calling from the deep sea

Earlier deep-sea creatures were known as a source of inspiration for Hollywood movies, but apparently now they inspire British architect Richard Rogers. The Maantis Light is a take on the iridescent glow of deep-sea creatures. It’s a product of a collaboration between international lighting company Reggiani Illuminazione and RRP. Maantis’ prismatic polycarbonate ribs are designed to allow they rays emitting from the main T5 light source are diffused, reflected and refracted in such a way that the amount of light spillage and glare is minimized. Even when the light is switched off, the prismatic ribs continue to absorb light and colors from the surrounding space and produce a slight translucent glow. Oh…so spooky!
The Maantis is fitted with an optional spotlight arm, which can be used to house motion sensors, so that we can conserve energy. The LEDs, which feature in Maantis, are used as an automatic lighting system. They are good for lighting up the whole office during peak work hours and can be set to minimal lighting during the over-time period.
