The Internet is 40 today and still kicking

wargames.jpg Though the exact date is not known, it is said that October 29, 1969 was the day when the Internet started. On that day undergraduate Charley Kline was given the simple job of logging on remotely from UCLA to the SRI machine; his one command was "login". 12 years later only 285 computers were hooked on the network, by 1985 around 16 million people were hooked up for email. Then came 2001 along with the dot com boom, browser wars came an explosive growth in Internet users which took the total user base to 513 million users. To date, around 1.7bn people are connected to the internet. The rate at which the Internet has evolved in the last 5 years it is very difficult to predict the future. Only time will tell if we will still be using Google, Facebook and Twitter 10 years from now.
