The 28 wheeler antenna transporter that turns on a dime

massive-truck.jpg Building a large Radio telescope is no easy task, especially if each of the space telescope antennas weighs 115-ton and cannot be further dis-assembled to make them compact enough for transit. The entire project needed the transport of 66 radio telescope antennas which will be able to capture ultra high resolution images of space with extreme accuracy. The 28 wheeler antenna transporter has a colossal weight of its own (130-tons) and measures 20-meters long. The gigantic truck has been designed to take the telescopes up the Chilean Andes which is 5000-meters high.

The antenna transporter is one of the largest gadgets we have ever seen designed and built for just one purpose. The entire project is said to cost $900 million and will be completed by 2012.
