Texting and driving is worse than driving drunk: Study
The next time an officer pulls you over he may well ask you for your cellphone rather than the alphabet in reverse. Why? A recent study has proved that texting and driving can be more hazardous than drinking and driving or for that matter even reading an email and driving. It seems quite convincing though, since testing requires you to see what you’re typing and also engages at least one of your hands into typing the message. The study was conducted by wiring an entire setup that would record the time taken by a driver to use his brakes on seeing a red light appearing on the windshield, which was supposed to be the simulation of a car that’s braking before him. The study revealed that most of the driver’s brain is concentrated on the texting rather than the road.
It’s time to start taking the phrase ‘keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road’ literally. There’s really not much to lose if you park your car for a few seconds while you type in a text.
