Teen Kills Sister After Enacting Mortal Kombat Moves
With millions of dollars being pumped in to see if we can benefit from video games, I feel there is not enough being done to combat how they are eating into the minds of our children. Impressionable as they are, teens are the most vulnerable lot that gets easily influenced by their surroundings. Take the case of Heather Trujillo, who got a 6-years suspended sentence after she helped beat, her sister to death. Her boyfriend and she claimed that they were acting out the video game Mortal Kombat when they kicked, karate chopped, and body slammed 7-year-old Zoe Garcia. Garcia later succumbed to her injuries in the hospital. This is a serious issue that we as community have to deal with. Surely this is not an isolated case; gaming and gadget addiction is taking its toll on our youth. As a parent I do worry about these issues. Earlier it would be the wrestling matches and violent content on the TV and now it's this. There is a thin line between reality and perceived notions; kids need to realize that it's not ok to hurt people, whether in a game or in reality.
You may want to note that the latest edition with superheroes in it, will feature Fatalities. Since the superhero code strictly forbids killing, the DC characters will have Brutalities instead.
