Tearless onions may soon be the norm

Tearless_onions.jpg If we go by what New Zealand scientists say, then Tearless onions may soon be a reality. That means no more crying while cooking! Yipee! Crop and Food research scientist Colin Eady says that the onions were still in the developmental stage. And if the things progress in the same line, then the tears-free onions will be the norm within the next decade. Dr Eady has been conducting lab tests to dry up the agent in onions that causes the tears. He has used gene-silencing technology to switch off the enzyme that causes the tears.

Japan is also collaborating in on the project.
