Symantec and McAfee to pay cash to New York State
It seems that several New Yorkers have complained that after purchasing software online from Symantec and McAfee, had their subscriptions automatically renewed without their consent. As settlement, both the companies have been ordered to pay the New York state $750,000 and also improve the visibility of their subscription terns and renewal policies. This will also involve notifying customers both before and after renewal of the subscription and also offering a 60 day grace period for refunds. The rule is that companies cannot play hide and seek with the fees that consumers will have to pay without their knowledge.
