Steinway's Model-D Music System costs $150,000

Model-D_Music_System_1.jpg Steinway & Sons and pianos go back a hundred and fifty year. They have been associated with the manufacture of some of the finest pianos ever produced. But this time around they are in the news for completely different reasons. Taking cue from the rest of their ilk (like Gibson and Fender), they have partnered with European engineer Peter Lyngdorf to manufacture consumer electronics. Steinway is now launching its Model-D Music System, (designed by Lyndorf), and it represents the zenith of its research and development in the areas of electronics and acoustic performance of amplifiers and loudspeakers. The fully active speaker system was conceived to reflect the values of the brand's famous Model-D Concert Grand Piano. Like the piano this too is a handmade product. The system's main pedestal serves as the control center, featuring a built-in CD player a loudspeakers driver array utilizing four 12-inch woofers, two 5-inch midrange drivers and single 2-inch ribbon tweeters.

Steinway's Model-D Music System is powered by four 400-watt Equibit-based digital amplifiers with electronic crossovers, Lyngdorf's digital room Room-Perfect room acoustics correction technology, 24-bit/192 kHz upsampling of any audio source and the ability to integrate into a home control system. Obviously a system of such caliber will attract a high price range, it's set to retail for $150,000.
