All of the sci-fi gimmicks and gadgets that directors, producers and writers have been dreaming up over the last few decades seem to be slowly but surely becoming reality. The latest is in the form of a Star Trek weapon, the one and only Phaser. The gun-like device was capable of either killing an enemy of simply stunning it if the user was feeling in a generous mood. A few Canadian scientists have developed a light system for worms that were first fed with a solution containing the molecule dithienylethene. The molecule is actually the key to the experiment and the worms were reported to react to different light wavelengths in different manners. When exposed to ultraviolet light the worms seemed to be frozen and also turned blue. Once exposed to normal light though, they were back to normal, well most of them anyways, some didn't make it. Well we know that any self-respecting crew member of the Enterprise would never stoop to feeding their enemies dithienylethene and then taking them to a disco, y’know with the UV lights all around.
