Space Infuser gives astronauts that hot cup of coffee
Floating in Zero gravity watching the earth float in space from a tiny window may make you want to sip a nice hot cappuccino. Isn’t that what astronauts do every day? Well just like the old legend goes of the US spending millions in making a space age pen that works in space and Russia using a pencil instead, the US has made a special device to pour out a cup of hot coffee in space for our tired astronauts. The main problem is that in zero gravity, the application of heat causes water to evaporate instantly. Currently the best that spacewalkers can do is heat their instant coffees in microwave ovens to get their kick.
Franklin Chang, a former NASA astronaut, wanted his coffee in space so he asked two students at the Institute's Electromechanical School. Daniel Rozen and Josue Solano took on the challenge and came up with a design called the space infuser.
