Sources close to the Sony PSP development team have revealed that the next generation of PSP gaming devices will not include the UMD. It will instead use a digital content distribution system much like iTunes or the App store from Apple. Dave Perry, chief operating officer of Acclaim, dropped a bomb online with claims that Sony's next PSP 2 will have no UMD. Perry came to know about this from a secret source who is working on the PSP 2 prototype. This comes hot on the heels of yesterday's rumor that the PSP-4000 could have a sliding screen, and that we could hear more about such a device at one of this year's big gaming shows, the 2009 GDC or E3.
