Sony has launched their third generation Blu-Ray drive BWU-300S. At peak speed, the drive can burn a 25GB disc in around 15 minutes. A dual layer 50GB disc can be written in a half hour. The drive is also capable of writing DVDs at up to 16X, CDs up to 48X. However, the burning speeds for DB-RE media is at 2X. Thirty minutes for a Blu-Ray DVD sounds like the good old days of CD writing. Adobe's Encore CS3 software and Sony's Vegas Pro 8 and DVD Architect Pro 5 software support the BWU-300S. Sony did not say whether Adobe's new CS4 suite would be supported. The BWU-300S will be priced at around $400; it comes bundled with a "Men in Black" Blu-ray Disc from Sony Pictures.
