SMELLIT adds odor to the list of must have gadgets
So you bought the latest 50-inch LCD screen with a 7.1 surround sound system with the latest BluRay DVD movie in stock. What more does a person ask for other than some mandatory Digital TV and a TiVo? A new technology called SMELLIT could be all one needs to complete the movie experience. Well, what if you could even smell the scene as Clooney flatters Catharine Zeta in ‘Intolerable Cruelty’ over a glass of champagne in a restaurant. Advertising pundits may see an opportunity there to let viewers experience a restaurant before ever stepping foot in it. The technology is similar to an inkjet printer, with the difference that instead of dispensing ink it burns the right smell stick right on queue as the movie plays a few scenes behind. As your DVD or Blu-ray player reads the video and sound information, SMELLIT processes the same DVD, but the ”smell CARD” decodes the smell information from 10 to 20 seconds* ahead of the actual scene so the odors have time to hit you.
After information is read, the cartridge vaporizes a very small amount of “smell gel”, and the central fan distributes the smell in all directions. It can be loaded with up to 118 cartridges, each with a different “smell gel”. Now this feature is an asset when watching a romantic movie but don’t expect your date to cozy up to you if you watch the fight sequences of movies like Gladiator, Kill Bill or the you know which scene in Slumdog Millionaire with her.
