Sharp develops laser for burning HD-DVD and Blu-Ray discs at 6X
Sharp Japan has developed the GH04P21A2G blue-violet laser which can burn double sided Blu-Ray and HD-DVD discs at 6X speed. It will begin mass production of the diodes from May 2007 with an output of 210 mW it is the world's highest. As terrestrial digital broadcasting spreads throughout Japan, demand for LCD TVs and HD recorders that support full-spec 1080p HDTV is expanding rapidly. The device has a service life of 10,000 hours which is also an industry first.
By 2008 8X and by 2009 diodes supporting 10X burning speed will be developed says Sharp.
