Seagate has come out with new enterprise storage solutions for Tier 2 storage applications. The two new drive models – a 2.5 inch and 3.5 inch hard drives, include a combination of features like high capacities, increased power efficiency, enterprise-class reliability and data security. Both the drives also include the trademarked PowerChoice from Seagate, which decreases power consumption by up to 54%. The Constellation 2.5 inch hard drive will be available in capacities of 160 GB and 500 GB with both 3 Gbps SATA and new SAS 2.0 interface running at 6Gbps speeds. This will ensure larger external storage topologies, 100% faster data throughput and higher signal strength over greater distances. The Constellation series is expected to be available by this quarter.

The Enterprise Solution Constellation 3.5 inch hard drive will be available in 500GB, 1TB and 2 TB capacities. It comes with an enterprise-class SAS interface as well as a SATA version providing the best-in-class capacity and storage. It's claimed to be the world's only 7200-rpm 3.5 inch hard drive providing up to 2 TB of storage space. With the Constellation ES, customers won't have to sacrifice performance in order to gain high capacities. The Constellation ES 3.5 inch is expected to be available by third quarter of the year.
