Schoolboy miraculously survives a direct hit by meteorite

meteorite.jpg The odds of being hit by a meteorite are one in 100 million. 14 year old Gerrit Blank, from Essen, Germany, made his way to this rare list when he was hit by a meteorite on his way to school. Speaking of the experience, Gerrit said that he saw a large ball of light, and then suddenly felt pain in his hand. He then heard an enormous bang like a crash of thunder. The meteorite, estimated to be traveling at 30,000mph has left a scar on Gerrit’s hand. The pea-sized meteorite is now under examination to trace its origins in the 4.55billion year old solar system.

There haven’t been any confirmed casualties from a direct hit by a meteorite. However, there are reports of animals being killed by the impact. Amongst other cases, in 1954, a woman in Alabama, America was injured when a 4 kg meteorite smashed through her roof while she was sleeping. A monk is said to have been killed in Milan in 1650 and two sailors in Sweden were allegedly killed by a meteorite in 1674 while sailing.
