SAX-40 radically shaped plane is completely silent

A team of U.S. and British researchers has unveiled the conceptual design for a near-silent, environmentally friendly passenger plane. The SAX-40 is been developed by the Cambridge-MIT institute. The team says that noise from the radically shaped aircraft would be "imperceptible" beyond the boundaries of an airport. It would also burn far less fuel than conventional planes. The design employs a "blended wing" and a tailless fuselage with engines mounted on top in a similar style to the current Stealth spy-planes - a radically different form of commercial aircraft to the fleets that are currently in the air. So just how silent the SAX-40 is it can carry around 215 passengers and be as noisy as a washing machine.
